Michelle smokes Benson & Hedges to start with, and then tries her first
Virginia Slim. She had emailed me before the shoot saying she was excited to smoke
her first Virginia Slim. She pretty much sticks with VS for the second half of the
video. Even the holders accomodate VS cigarettes, which is cool. I accidentally
brought VS Ultra Lights to the shoot instead of regular, but the smoke looked
pretty good considering that. There's one song on the first couple shots,
because I accidentally didn't record audio on those, but the rest of it is all live
audio. There's a little conversation with Michelle, who's kind of an alternative chick,
in case you can't tell from the pics, but for the most part we kept quiet and let the
smoking run the show. We step outside for one scene where she smokes a
flavored cigar, but the rest of it is inside, with the Red Curtain.
Now, you may be thinking "Why? Why a Cinesmoke video in front of a red curtain?
If I wanted a video in front of a curtain there's lots of places I could get that." True.
Too true, actually. But I didn't intend to shoot it like this. We were at Michelle's
house in Santa Cruz, and we started with a couple of shots by the computer, but that
Red Curtain was calling us. So we shot in front of it and the next thing we knew we'd
shot the whole video there. Aesthetically,
it really lends itself to smoking videos. There's something about the Red Curtain...
