Quiet Friend
Her cigarette
long and pretty
just like her
a little friend
in her hand
She watches
as it burns
quietly
just for her
patiently waiting
for her to smoke
night glow
she'll light up
as sure as the stars
will shine
her cigarette shall glow
a star in the night
the others don't know
and cannot know
what it is like
to be a part
of magic
and things that glow
in the night
Her glow is her own
Her magic eternal
The smoke
She breathes
Fills her with power
Secret Weapon
lights in the club
shine down in pretty colors
over all of us
illuminating our beautiful faces
as the beat drives on
my mascara perfect
because I took the time
to make it so
like all the other girls did
my hair pulled tightly back
in a french braid
my black dress
hugging my body tightly
like all the other girls
guys walking between them
dressed so nicely themselves
designer shoes on my feet
high heels accenting my legs
just like the other girls
her lips are pink, and hers purple
mine are red
they match my nails
like hers and hers
how can i rise above
such tough competition
how do i make the men
pick me out from the crowd
and make the women
respect their superior
my black handbag
like all the other girls'
i reach into it
and pull out a slender white cigarette
hold it between my lips
already i can see
by the looks
i am different
eyes upon me now
i light my cigarette
and use it
with skill
eyes upon me
my final accessory
lets them know
that i am special
the cloud above the crowd
is mine
the beat
to which we move
becomes mine
yes
i am special
Acceptance
he poured the wine
she lit the candles
together on the couch
soft kisses
to soft music
enjoying each other's company
and each other's bodies
relax and drink
she slides a cigarette from her pack
he lights it for her
the puff is delicious
like the wine
his acceptance
of her
and the cigarette
in her hand
makes the magic between them
even more special
he even holds the ashtray
for her to tap her ashes
a puff from the cigarette
she takes
reveling in his acceptance
he kisses her
the magic between them
stronger than ever
